US President Donald Trump said the United States carried out military strikes on Iran under an operation named “Epic Fury,” stating that the action was intended to eliminate threats posed by what he described as a “terrorist regime.”

Speaking at a gathering, Trump said he selected the name for the operation from a list presented by US military generals. According to ANI, the US president said the military had suggested around 20 possible names.

“I saw ‘Epic Fury’ and said, ‘I like that name,’” Trump said, describing the process. “They gave me like 20 names, and I'm like falling asleep, I didn't like any of them. Then I see Epic Fury. I said, ‘I like that name. I like that name,’” he added.

Trump said the operation was successful and that US forces achieved their objectives rapidly.

“It is only good if you win, you know, you can only, and we've won, let me tell you, we've won,” he said, according to ANI. “You know, you never like to say too early you won, we won, we won, but in the first hour it was over.”

The US president described the action as a limited military move aimed at countering threats from Iran.

“We did an excursion, you know what an excursion is? We had to take a little trip to get rid of some evil, very evil people. It should have been done,” Trump said, according to ANI.

Trump also alleged that Iran had long posed threats across the Middle East and claimed US strikes caught Iranian forces off guard.

“They don't know what the hell hit them… They got hit by the American military… They didn't expect anything like this,” he said.

Trump said the US operation aimed to weaken Iran’s ability to launch attacks by targeting missile and drone capabilities.

Speaking to reporters earlier during a visit to the Thermo Fisher Scientific facility in Cincinnati, Trump said the strikes were designed to neutralise Iranian missile and drone infrastructure.

“Well, it's both. It's both. It's an excursion that will keep us out of a war, and the war is going to be — for them, it's a war; for us, it's turned out to be easier than we thought,” Trump said, according to ANI.

He also claimed that US forces had moved quickly to limit Iran’s missile launch capabilities.

“But think of it, they had thousands of missiles, 7–8 thousand missiles. We got many of them before they got to launch,” Trump said.

Trump added that US forces were also targeting Iranian drone manufacturing facilities and maritime assets linked to potential mining activities.

The strikes come amid an escalating military confrontation between the United States and Iran that began with US attacks on Iranian targets earlier this year.

In a speech announcing the initial strikes, Trump outlined several military objectives for the campaign, including destroying Iran’s missile infrastructure, dismantling naval capabilities, preventing Iranian proxy groups from destabilising the region, and ensuring Iran does not obtain a nuclear weapon.

Since then, US and Israeli forces have conducted a series of strikes on Iranian military infrastructure, including missile facilities and naval assets, as the conflict has expanded across the region.
