US President Donald Trump has once again insisted he still has the authority to impose duties, even after the Supreme Court of the United States last month struck down his global tariff plan.
In a lengthy post on his social media platform Truth Social, Trump said: "I have the absolute right to charge TARIFFS in another form, and have already started to do so." Shortly after the court's ruling, he moved ahead with a 10 percent tariff on US imports through an executive order.
In another post later Sunday, Trump sharply criticised federal judge James Boasberg after subpoenas issued during an investigation into Jerome Powell were quashed. The probe had focused on costs tied to renovations at the Federal Reserve headquarters.
"What Boasberg has done on the 'Too Late' Powell case, and many others, has little to do with the Law, and everything to do with Politics," Trump wrote.
Trump has repeatedly attacked Powell over the central bank's handling of interest rates, arguing that borrowing costs should be lower to support the economy. He has also attempted to remove Federal Reserve governor Lisa Cook, citing allegations of mortgage fraud.
Earlier this year, the Supreme Court signalled scepticism about Trump's efforts to dismiss Cook, with several justices questioning whether the administration had shown adequate grounds for her removal.
In his Truth Social post, Trump also criticised the country's highest court, writing: "This completely inept and embarrassing Court was not what the Supreme Court of the United States was set up by our wonderful Founders to be."
He added: "They are hurting our Country, and will continue to do so."
Trump concluded by saying: "All I can do, as President, is call them out for their bad behavior! This statement about the United States Supreme Court will cause me nothing but problems in the future, but I feel it is my obligation to speak the TRUTH."
