Israel’s military has said Iranian long-range missiles could now reach up to 4,000 km, potentially bringing major European cities such as London, Paris and Berlin within range.
The Israel Defense Forces (IDF), in a post on X on March 21, said Iran had launched a long-range missile for the first time since the start of what it referred to as “Operation Roaring Lion.” The military added that it had previously warned about Tehran’s ambitions to develop such capabilities.

“During Operation Rising Lion in June 2025, the IDF revealed that the Iranian regime has intentions to develop missiles with a range of 4,000 km… which pose a danger to dozens of countries in Europe, Asia and Africa,” the statement said.

The IDF also claimed Iran had earlier denied pursuing such capabilities.
A widening threat narrative beyond the Middle East
Israel framed the development as a shift from a regional to a broader global threat.
“We have been saying it: The Iranian regime poses a global threat… with missiles that can reach London, Paris or Berlin,” the IDF said, adding that Iran had already carried out attacks across multiple countries in the region.
The statement underscores Israel’s effort to internationalise concerns around Iran’s missile programme, positioning it as a risk extending beyond West Asia.
Iran signals escalation after Dimona warning
In a sharp response, the Consulate General of Iran in Hyderabad suggested that the conflict could enter a new phase if Israel fails to intercept missiles targeting sensitive areas.
“If the Israeli regime fails to intercept the missiles in the heavily fortified area of Dimona, it will be an operational sign of entering a new phase of the battle: Israeli sky is defenceless,” the consulate said in a post on X.
The reference to Dimona, widely known as a strategically sensitive site, signals heightened rhetoric around Israel’s missile defence capabilities.
The statement also hinted at “pre-planned plans,” indicating possible escalation if interception systems are breached.
Netanyahu: ‘We will continue striking on all fronts’
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu struck a resolute tone, signalling that military operations would continue.
“This has been a very difficult evening in the battle for our future,” Netanyahu said in a statement, adding that he had directed government agencies to provide full assistance to those affected and praised emergency responders.
“We are determined to continue striking our enemies on all fronts,” his office said.
