The House Foreign Affairs Committee Democrats have strongly criticized U.S. President Donald Trump for imposing tariffs on India over its purchase of Russian oil, while exempting China and other nations buying even larger volumes.
In a X post, the Committee accused the Trump administration of "hurting Americans & sabotaging the US-India relationship in the process." The lawmakers questioned the administration’s motives, stating, "It's almost like it's not about Ukraine at all."
Quoting a report of New York Times, they mentioned, "Instead of imposing sanctions on China or others purchasing larger amounts of Russian oil, Trump’s singling out India with tariffs, hurting Americans & sabotaging the US-India relationship in the process. It’s almost like it’s not about Ukraine at all."

The Committee took issue with the selective application of tariffs, emphasizing that targeting India while sparing others undermines both U.S. interests and its relationship with a key democratic partner.
