A Sikh woman in her twenties was raped by two men in Oldbury, UK, and subjected to racist abuse, including being told to “go back to your country.”
The attack, which police are treating as a racially aggravated hate crime, occurred near Tame Road around 8:30 am last Tuesday. Authorities have launched a manhunt for the suspects.
According to West Midlands Police, the woman reported that the assailants hurled racist remarks during the assault. Detectives are reviewing CCTV footage and forensic evidence to identify the suspects.
Local media described the attackers as white men, one heavy-built with a shaved head wearing a dark sweatshirt and gloves, and the other in a grey top with a silver zip.
The crime has sparked anger in the Sikh community, with police acknowledging the outrage as “fully understandable” and promising increased patrols in the area.
Birmingham MP Preet Kaur Gill strongly condemned the assault, calling the rise of “overt racism" in the UK deeply troubling. “This was an act of extreme violence and racially aggravated abuse. She does belong here. Every community has the right to feel safe, respected, and valued. Racism and misogyny have no place in Oldbury or anywhere in Britain," Gill said.
Officers have appealed for any CCTV, dashcam, or mobile footage from the area and urged anyone with information to come forward. The victim is receiving specialist support while investigations continue.
