A Ukrainian lawmaker and former parliamentary speaker was shot dead on Saturday in Lviv, authorities confirmed, describing the incident as a hail of bullets.
Ukraine's President Volodymyr Zelensky condemned it as a "horrific murder" and identified the victim as Andriy Parubiy, a prominent politician who served as speaker in the 2010s. He vowed a thorough investigation into the killing.
"Minister of Internal Affairs Ihor Klymenko and Prosecutor General Ruslan Kravchenko have just reported on the first known circumstances of a horrific murder in Lviv. Andriy Parubiy has been killed," Zelensky wrote on X, adding that the search for the killer was ongoing.
