Dallas witnessed a deadly shooting at the US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) field office on North Stemmons Freeway on Wednesday. The shooting incident left multiple people dead and injured. Authorities confirmed that the gunman died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem has acknowledged the presence of several victims, while police and federal investigators continue probing the motive behind the attack.
A federal law enforcement official described the incident as “an act of targeted violence” against the federal agency, a news report by Mint said. At a briefing, Joe Rothrock, special agent in charge of the FBI’s Dallas field office, said that rounds recovered near the suspect appeared to have anti-ICE messages written on them.
According to reports, authorities were alerted just before 7 am after a rifle-wielding sniper opened fire from the roof of an adjacent building. The shooting targeted the ICE facility located along Interstate 35E.
Police sources told WFAA that two ICE detainees were killed and one person was injured. Officials clarified that none of the wounded were law enforcement officers. The shooter was later found dead.
The Dallas Police Department confirmed the incident in a statement posted on its X handle. “On September 24, 2025, at about 6:40 am, Dallas Police responded to an assist officer call in the 8100 block of north Stemmons Freeway. The preliminary investigation determined that a suspect opened fire at a government building from an adjacent building. Two people were transported to the hospital with gunshot wounds. One victim died at the scene. The suspect is deceased," police said.
Shooter identified as white male
The suspect has been identified as a white man who, before police could reach him, fatally shot himself in the head. His body was discovered not on the ICE building, but on the roof of a nearby immigration lawyer's office.
While investigators are exploring possible leads, police have not yet confirmed whether other individuals may have been involved.
Following the incident, several ambulances, emergency vehicles as well as dozens of police units rushed to the scene, media reports said. Texas Department of Transportation cameras captured intense police activity on the I-35E access lane near Empire Central. Eyewitnesses said that there was a swift response, with officers securing the perimeter armed with heavy weapons.
Federal authorities have joined the probe, with the FBI assisting local police in processing the crime scene.
“The FBI is fully engaged, in conjunction with our state and federal law enforcement partners, at the crime scene in Dallas,” FBI Deputy Director Dan Bongino wrote on X.
