Epstein emails spark questions: Who is Indian-American Deepak Chopra and what do the records show?

The emails have drawn attention because of the content and the timing, which came years after Epstein had already been convicted as a registered sex offender.

Recently released documents from the estate of late financier Jeffrey Epstein have revealed a series of email exchanges with Indian-American author and wellness figure Deepak Chopra. The material was made public by the US House Oversight Committee and includes correspondence dated between 2016 and 2018.

The emails have drawn attention because of the content and the timing, which came years after Epstein had already been convicted as a registered sex offender.

What the emails reveal

In one exchange from November 2016, Epstein forwarded Chopra a news article about a woman who had filed, and later withdrawn, a civil lawsuit alleging sexual abuse by Donald Trump at a gathering linked to Epstein. Chopra responded by asking whether the case against Epstein had also been dropped. After Epstein confirmed this, Chopra replied with a brief response: “Good.”

Another email chain from July 2016 shows Chopra asking Epstein for information regarding Marla Maples, the second wife of then-President Donald Trump. In the message, Chopra wrote, “Anything we share is between us."

Epstein responded by saying, “I share nothing with anyone but trust you." He then recounted a personal story involving Trump, stating that he had lost a $10,000 bet over Maples’ pregnancy and had paid it by sending Trump a truckload of baby food.

These exchanges formed part of more than 20,000 pages of documents from Epstein’s estate. The records also reference other prominent individuals, although many names have been redacted.

Who is Deepak Chopra

Deepak Chopra is a well-known figure in the field of alternative medicine and holistic wellness. He is an author, physician and New Age advocate who has written over ninety books, several of which became international bestsellers. He also co-founded the Chopra Center for Wellbeing, which focuses on meditation, Ayurveda and integrative health practices.

Born in India, Chopra moved to the United States in 1970 after completing his medical studies. He later specialised in internal medicine and endocrinology and became known for advocating a holistic approach that blends modern medicine with yoga, meditation and spiritual healing techniques.

Over the years, Chopra has built a significant global presence and is associated with several professional and academic roles. These include Clinical Professor of Family Medicine and Public Health at the University of California, San Diego, senior scientist at Gallup, and Honorary Fellow in Medicine at the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow.

He has also been involved in technology-based wellness ventures, including DeepakChopra.ai and Cyberhuman.ai, which focus on AI-supported approaches to health and personal development.

Wider context of the release

The documents are part of ongoing efforts by US lawmakers to increase transparency around Epstein’s network and contacts. The release has reignited scrutiny of individuals who had interactions with Epstein, even as many names and references remain partially redacted.

While the emails do not provide full context for the relationship between Epstein and Chopra, their disclosure has raised fresh questions about the nature of their communication and associations during that period.
