Paradromics, Elon Musk’s brain-tech rival, has successfully implanted a chip in a human subject for the first time, a Bloomberg report says. The implant in a human brain was carried out at the University of Michigan on May 14, the report added. With this, the company aims to inch closer to clinical-stage development.
The doctors were performing a neurosurgery on the human subject when the brain-computer interface was implanted. The successful implant was done in just twenty minutes during the brain surgery. After successful implant, the brain chip was also removed without any medical concerns.
Later, the company confirmed the removal of the brain chip saying that the May 14 surgery is a confirmation that the brain-computer interface can be implanted in the human brain tissue without any concerns.
"Our technology will help millions with unmet medical needs suffering from paralysis and movement disorders to chronic pain, addiction, depression and other mental health conditions," the company says on its official website while describing the device.
The development is a testament of fast-growing brain-tech industry that has players like Precision Neuroscience, Elon Musk's Neuralink and Jeff Bezos-backed Synchron. In recent past, all these companies have managed to successfully implant chips in human subjects.
