Ghislaine Maxwell, the convicted associate of Jeffrey Epstein, suggested in newly released tapes from the U.S. Department of Justice that Epstein may have arranged for a date with the late Princess Diana.
In the transcript, Maxwell, who is serving time for her role in Epstein's sex trafficking operation, did not confirm whether the meeting actually took place but acknowledged that efforts were made to initiate it.
“I don't know if he sat with Diana or he met with Diana and he'd already met her. I don't know, but this, I believe was organized by Rosa,” she said, referring to Rosa Monckton, a mutual acquaintance of both Diana and Epstein.
Maxwell also noted Epstein's attendance at a major event in London following their introduction, which she believed might have included contact with the princess.
“I don't know if she was being set up as a date for him, maybe because she I don't want to speak badly of Diana, but I'm not going to do that,” she added.
Elsewhere in the interview, Maxwell made further controversial claims, including her long-standing assertion that a photo showing her with Prince Andrew and Virginia Giuffre was “fake.”
Maxwell suggested that the events where Epstein and Princess Diana might have crossed paths occurred in the early 2000s. However, this timeline conflicts with the fact that Diana died in a car accident in Paris on August 31, 1997.
She also dismissed claims that she introduced Epstein to the British royal family. “That is a flat untruth,” she said, according to The Daily Beast.
Meanwhile, author and journalist Michael Wolff revealed in his book that Donald Trump and Epstein allegedly competed for Diana’s attention. “There was one point in which they had a competition about who would be the first one to sleep with Princess Diana. Now, I don't think that ever happened,” Wolff wrote.
