Late-night talk show host Jimmy Fallon once again blended politics with punchlines, taking a comedic swing at US President Donald Trump’s new tariff proposals targeting India, Brazil, and Canada, while also sneaking in a jab at Russian President Vladimir Putin.
“Today, more of President Trump’s tariffs hit over 90 countries, including Canada, Brazil, and India. The only places Trump didn’t charge are North Korea and Epstein’s island," said Fallon on The Tonight Show.
Fallon's comments alluded to Trump's ties with the disgraced financier spotlighted in the recent Wall Street Journal exposé.
The Wall Street Journal recently published a story alleging that President Trump had signed a birthday letter addressed to convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.
Trump has denied the claim and filed a lawsuit against Rupert Murdoch, the Wall Street Journal, and NewsCorp, asserting the article relied on “sources that don’t even exist.”
He then imagined world leaders reacting to Trump’s possible meeting with Putin: “Oo, you’re in trouble."
Kremlin has repeatedly dismissed the idea of a joint meeting with Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. On Thursday, it reportedly stated that a US–Russia summit would proceed only if Zelenskyy was not included.
However, Trump has confirmed he will meet with Russian President Vladimir Putin on August 15, 2025, in Alaska.
The comedian also poked fun at Trump’s claim he would give Russia a deadline to end the Ukraine war, delivering the punchline: “Right under building a new ballroom to meet Sydney Sweeney."
Sydney Sweeney is facing backlash for her recent ad related to American Eagle jeans, which has a pun on “genes” and “jeans.” It received criticism for allegedly promoting Nazi propaganda and racism. While Trump expressed his support for Sydney, sharing a tweet praising the ad as "the hottest ad."
