The man accused of fatally shooting Charlie Kirk at an event in Utah on September 10 has been charged with aggravated murder. The charge implies 22-year-old Tyler Robinson could face death penalty if convicted of killing the conservative activist.
Utah prosecutors have charged Robinson, who confessed to killing Kirk in a message to his roommate, with seven counts in state court. The 22-year-old is accused of firing a single rifle shot from a rooftop that pierced Kirk's neck on the campus of Utah Valley University.
Here is a breakdown of the counts against Robinson:
Aggravated murder-
This charge says Robinson intentionally or knowingly caused Charlie Kirk's death. A conviction is punishable by death, life in prison, life without parole or at least 25 years behind bars. A sentence could be further enhanced because Robinson allegedly targeted Kirk for his political beliefs and carried out the attack in the presence of children.Felony (discharge of a firearm causing serious bodily injury)-
Robinson is accused of shooting Kirk with a firearm. As with the murder charge, penalties for this count could be higher because he allegedly targeted Kirk for his political beliefs and carried out the attack in the presence of children.Obstruction of justice (Second degree felony)-
With intent to hinder, delay or prevent the probe, Tyler Robinson concealed/removed the firearm he used to shoot Kirk from the scene.Obstruction of justice (Second degree felony)-
Robinson, with an intent to hinder, delay or prevent the investigation, removed and hid the clothes he wore when he fatally shot Kirk.Tampering with a witness (Third degree felony)-
This charge alleges that Robinson told his roommate to delete incriminating text messages they exchanged after the shooting and withhold testimony or an item.Tampering with a witness (Third degree felony)-
Tyler Robinson intended to prevent an official proceeding or investigation by directing his roommate to stay silent and request a lawyer if police asked questions.Violent offence in presence of a child-
Robinson knew children under age 14 were present at the time of the shooting and may have heard or seen it. He committed criminal homicide in the physical presence of a child:This count, too, carries the potential for enhanced penalties because he allegedly targeted Kirk for his political beliefs.
Paying tribute to close ally Kirk, US President Donald Trump said, "No one understood or had the heart of the youth in the United States of America better than Charlie".

In a post on his social media platform Truth Social, he wrote, "The Great, and even Legendary, Charlie Kirk, is dead. No one understood or had the Heart of the Youth in the United States of America better than Charlie. He was loved and admired by ALL, especially me, and now, he is no longer with us. Melania and my Sympathies go out to his beautiful wife Erika, and family. Charlie, we love you!"
