US President Trump slams China over Boeing deal collapse

US President Donald Trump has once again taken aim at China, accusing Beijing of failing to uphold its end of a major aircraft purchase agreement with Boeing.

In a strongly worded post on Truth Social, Trump wrote, "Boeing should default China for not taking the beautifully finished planes that China committed to purchase." The remark comes as Boeing faces stalled deliveries, with its CEO confirming that Chinese buyers have ceased accepting aircraft amid ongoing trade tensions.

Trump further escalated his criticism by linking the issue to the ongoing fentanyl crisis in the US. "This is just a small example of what China has done to the USA for years," he added. "And, by the way, Fentanyl continues to pour into our Country from China, through Mexico and Canada, killing hundreds of thousands of our people, and it better stop, NOW!"

Boeing CEO Kelly Ortberg revealed in an interview with CNBC that Chinese airlines have halted deliveries of new aircraft due to the ongoing tariff dispute between China and the United States. The company had planned to deliver around 50 planes to China in 2025 — a plan now derailed by the trade standoff.

“If the situation continues,” Ortberg said, “we'll have to offer these planes to other airlines.”

He emphasized that the company is determined to stay on track despite the setbacks. “I'm not going to let this derail the recovery of our company, so we'll give the customers an opportunity if they want to take the airplanes. That's what we prefer to do. But if not, we're gonna remarket those airplanes,” he added.

Despite public comments from figures like President Trump urging action, formal negotiations on tariffs between the US and China have yet to resume. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent confirmed that talks with Beijing have not restarted.
