A Bangladesh court on Thursday sentenced ousted prime minister Sheikh Hasina to a total of 21 years in prison after finding her guilty in three corruption cases linked to the Rajuk New Town Project in Purbachol, local media reported.

The state-run BSS news agency said the cases stemmed from alleged irregularities in the allocation of residential plots. According to the court, the plot was allotted to Hasina “without any application and in a manner that exceeded the legally authorised jurisdiction.”

Hasina, who was removed from power earlier this year and is yet to be arrested, was tried in absentia. The court handed her seven years in each of the three cases, adding up to a 21-year sentence.

The verdict was pronounced in her absence after the court declared her a fugitive from justice.
