A Bangladesh Air Force training aircraft crashed onto the campus of Milestone School and College in Dhaka’s Uttara area on Monday afternoon, killing at least 19 people and injuring several others, according to Reuters.

The aircraft, identified as an F-7 BGI fighter jet, went down around 1:06 PM in the northern part of the capital, where students were reportedly present at the time of the crash. Television footage showed thick smoke and flames rising from the crash site as emergency crews rushed to contain the fire.

The Bangladesh Army’s public relations office confirmed that the jet belonged to the Air Force, though further details have not yet been released.

Earlier, fire service official Lima Khan stated that at least one person had died and four others were injured. She did not provide identities or clarify whether the casualties were civilians or military personnel. Thick plumes of smoke were seen rising from the crash site as emergency services rushed to the scene.

Firefighting and rescue teams are currently working at the site to assess the damage and search for any additional casualties. The condition of the pilot remains unclear as authorities have not yet released an official statement regarding injuries or fatalities beyond the initial report.
