Trump calls US elections “rigged” and backs Save America Act to tighten voting rules

US President Donald Trump on Sunday called for sweeping election reforms, describing American polls as “rigged, stolen, and a laughingstock all over the world.” He urged voters and lawmakers to support the new “Save America Act,” which aims to tighten voting rules and safeguard electoral integrity.

On his social media platform, Truth Social, Trump demanded that all voters present identification, show proof of US citizenship to register, and restrict mail-in ballots to cases of illness, disability, military service, or travel.

“America’s Elections are Rigged, Stolen, and a Laughingstock all over the World. We are either going to fix them, or we won’t have a Country any longer. I am asking all Republicans to fight for the following: SAVE AMERICA ACT!,” Trump said.

The “Save America Act” is a Republican-backed bill currently being considered in Congress. Its provisions would require US citizens to verify their identity and citizenship in person to register for federal elections, while limiting absentee voting to exceptional circumstances.

Trump framed these measures as critical to “saving” the country, emphasizing the urgency of enforcing stricter voting requirements to prevent what he claims are systemic flaws in the current election system.

“1. ALL VOTERS MUST SHOW VOTER ID (IDENTIFICATION!). 2. ALL VOTERS MUST SHOW PROOF OF UNITED STATES CITIZENSHIP TO REGISTER FOR VOTING. 3. NO MAIL-IN BALLOTS (EXCEPT FOR ILLNESS, DISABILITY, MILITARY, OR TRAVEL!),” his post added.

The remarks come amid ongoing Republican efforts to reshape voting regulations across several states, with Trump positioning the “Save America Act” as a cornerstone of the party’s agenda ahead of upcoming elections.
