American F-22, F-35 fighter jets escort Vladimir Putin’s plane from Alaska to Russia | Watch

The Kremlin released footage on Saturday showing US F-22 and F-35 fighter jets accompanying Russian President Vladimir Putin’s aircraft as it travelled from Alaska back to Russia. The released footage was filmed from inside President Vladimir Putin’s aircraft during his return journey to Russia following the Anchorage meeting.

After the discussions concluded, Putin’s Il-96-300PU was escorted out of US airspace by American F-35 and F-22 fifth-generation fighter aircraft on its way back to Russia. A video shared by the state-run TASS agency captured the jets from inside the Russian presidential plane.

The two leaders' planes took off from Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson within minutes of one another after they held around three hours of talks on the war, which has raged for more than three years since Moscow launched its all-out invasion of its neighbour in early 2022.

Russian President Vladimir Putin on Friday spoke of an "understanding" reached with US counterpart Donald Trump which he said could bring peace in Ukraine, without giving any details.

The leaders met for a highly anticipated summit in Alaska to discuss Russia's invasion of Ukraine and ways towards peace, but there was no apparent breakthrough deal.

"We hope that the understanding we have reached will... pave the way for peace in Ukraine," Putin said at a joint press conference with Trump after their talks.

He said Moscow expected "that Kyiv and the European capitals will perceive all this in a constructive manner and will not create any obstacles".

He also warned against "attempts to disrupt the emerging progress through provocation or behind-the-scenes intrigues."

Putin and Trump praised the meeting, with the Russian leader branding it as "constructive" and held in "mutually respectful atmosphere."
