The I&B Ministry has been informed about the decision of the Home Ministry, which was believed to have been influenced by pending criminal cases against Maran and his brother and former Union Minister Dayanidhi Maran, official sources said.

The move by Maran brothers came a month after the Supreme Court on February 9 had disallowed them from approaching Delhi High Court against the special court's order summoning them as accused in the case arising out of probe into the 2G spectrum allocation scam.

Special CBI judge O P Saini had on October 29 last year summoned these three and five others, including four firms, for tomorrow as accused after taking cognisance of the CBI's charge sheet filed in the case.

The charge-sheet is premised on CBI's findings following its investigations into a complaint made by the promoter of SVL, C Sivasankaran, that Dayanidhi Maran had allegedly abused his official position and constricted the business environment of Aircel between 2004 and 2005 with the aim of coercing SVL to sell Aircel to MCB.

Court has fixed September 11 for consideration of the charge sheet. Malaysian business tycoon T Ananda Krishnan has also been named as accused in the CBI charge sheet.

On being asked as to who the DMK will project as PM candidate among Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi and BJP PM candidate Narendra Modi, the party chief Karunanidhi said, "Neither of them."
