Starting Sunday, June 1, WhatsApp will stop working on some older iPhones. If you or someone you know is still using an older model, it’s time to double-check.
WhatsApp, which is owned by Meta, regularly updates its app and changes the minimum system requirements. This time, it’s saying goodbye to a few older smartphones that can’t keep up with the newer updates.
To continue using WhatsApp, your iPhone must be running iOS 15.1 or later. If your phone is stuck on an older iOS version and can’t be updated anymore, WhatsApp will no longer work on it.
Here are the iPhone models that are losing WhatsApp support starting June 1:
--iPhone 5s
--iPhone 6
--iPhone 6 Plus
Some reports have also mentioned:
--iPhone 6s
--iPhone 6s Plus
--iPhone SE (1st generation)
However, there’s some good news. These last three models can still be updated to iOS 15.8.4, which means WhatsApp will continue to work on them — at least for now. So if you have one of these and it’s fully updated, you don’t need to worry just yet.
This update was originally planned for May 5 but was delayed to June 1. While many people have already moved on to newer phones, older models are still commonly used as backup phones or by people who don't need the latest features. So this change may surprise a few users.
To check if your phone is affected, go to Settings > General > About and see which iOS version you have. If it's below 15.1 and your phone can’t be updated, it's time to consider upgrading if you want to keep using WhatsApp.
