People have been asking for the iPad version of WhatsApp for years and Meta has been testing the iPad app in beta for years. However, no official release data has been revealed till date. However, a new post reaction from WhatsApp on an April 8 post on X can be considered as teasing the WhatsApp for iPad app.
While the post does not say much, and it is just the “eye” emoji hinting at “keep looking,” it signals that the rollout may be closer than expected.
Beta testing status
The iPad version of WhatsApp has been under beta testing for nearly two years via Apple’s TestFlight program. Although the beta is currently at capacity and not accepting new testers, existing users report a largely stable experience. This indicates that WhatsApp’s parent company Meta, is finalising the app before public release.
Features expected
The app is expected to support “companion mode,” enabling users to access WhatsApp on iPad without needing their iPhone to be online. This would mirror the experience of WhatsApp on desktop and web platforms, with messages and calls staying end-to-end encrypted across all linked devices.
iPad-optimised experience
Unlike the current workarounds involving the web or iPhone versions, the upcoming iPad app is likely to feature a redesigned interface tailored to the larger screen. This should offer a more intuitive layout for multitasking, chats, and media viewing.
No public release date yet
Meta has not officially announced a launch date for the iPad version of WhatsApp. However, given the extensive beta testing phase and recent engagement on social media, the official rollout appears to be on the horizon.
