Valve has confirmed the Steam Machine, a new living-room gaming device designed to bring PC performance to TV-based setups. The console-style system uses SteamOS, supports the complete Steam library, and is built on AMD hardware. Announced in November 2025, the device will be available in two storage variants and is positioned as an alternative for players who want PC-grade performance without building a traditional desktop.
Valve Steam Machine Price
Valve has not announced final pricing but has confirmed two models: a 512GB variant and a 2TB variant. Industry estimates place the expected launch price between $699 and $999, depending on configuration and whether the new Steam Controller is bundled. The device will be sold through the Steam Store and selected regional partners, including Komodo. A global rollout is planned for early 2026.
Valve Steam Machine Processor
The Steam Machine uses a custom AMD platform built around an AMD Zen 4 CPU with 6 cores and 12 threads, clocked up to 4.8GHz. It is paired with a custom AMD RDNA 3 GPU featuring 28 compute units and 8GB GDDR6 VRAM. Valve says the hardware is designed to deliver 4K 60FPS gameplay with support for ray tracing and FidelityFX Super Resolution (FSR) upscaling.
The system includes 16GB DDR5 RAM, which is upgradeable, and NVMe SSD storage options of 512GB and 2TB. Additional expandability is available via an internal slot or microSD.
Valve Steam Machine Features
The compact unit is designed for living-room use and focuses on efficiency, cooling, and low-noise performance. Key hardware capabilities include:
4K gaming support
Ray tracing and FSR upscaling
HDMI 2.0 and DisplayPort 1.4
Wi-Fi 6E and Bluetooth
Multiple USB ports for accessories
The device supports various controllers, keyboards, and peripherals, with the updated Steam Controller enabling system and TV power control directly.
Valve Steam Machine Operating system
The Steam Machine runs SteamOS, Valve’s Linux-based operating system used on the Steam Deck. It includes Proton compatibility layers, enabling the system to run both Linux and most Windows games. Users can also install other operating systems or launchers, including the Epic Games Store, GOG Galaxy, or emulators.
Valve Steam Machine Available games
The Steam Machine supports the entire Steam library at launch. Proton support ensures compatibility with most Windows-only titles. Games like Baldur’s Gate 3, Cyberpunk 2077, Starfield, Counter-Strike 2, and Elden Ring are expected to run at console-level performance or above. Third-party apps and game launchers can also be installed.
