A user suggestion to introduce a “dislike” button on X has quickly turned into a live test, with the platform reportedly rolling out the feature to select users within minutes. The development gained attention after X’s Head of Product, Nikita Bier, responded to the suggestion with “Give me 60 seconds.”

According to the post by Insider Wire, Bier replied to the request at around 9:10 am. By approximately 9:18 am, screenshots had already surfaced showing the dislike button live on some accounts. This rapid shift from suggestion to rollout suggests that the feature was already in development and was triggered or accelerated following the interaction.

Limited rollout to select users

The feature is currently available only to a subset of users. Some accounts are seeing a dislike icon placed next to the like button on replies, while many others report that it is still missing. Reports indicate that the rollout initially appeared limited to a test group before gradually expanding to more users, pointing to a typical server-side deployment.

Early versions of the dislike button appear to be restricted to replies rather than main posts. In some cases, tapping the button opens a “reply feedback” prompt, allowing users to select reasons such as “Incorrect or misleading,” “AI generated,” or “Spam.”

This indicates that the feature is designed to collect structured feedback rather than function as a simple public reaction.

Unlike traditional dislike systems, the current implementation does not display public dislike counts. Instead, the feedback is expected to act as a private signal that feeds into X’s ranking systems. This could help the platform surface more relevant replies while pushing low-quality responses lower.

Feature long in development

The dislike button is not entirely new for X. Earlier reports had pointed to the company working on a similar feature, including references in app code and design elements such as a broken heart icon. The current rollout suggests those efforts are now moving into live testing.

As of now it is not know when the feature will become widely available to all users across the platforms. For now, this appears to be limited to select users only.
