The UMANG app has introduced a new feature called ‘Mera Ration’, allowing ration card holders to access key information related to their ration benefits directly through their smartphones. The feature aims to simplify access to government ration services and reduce the need for beneficiaries to visit government offices for basic details.

The ‘Mera Ration’ service enables users to check their ration card information, eligibility under government schemes, and the quantity of food grains they are entitled to receive.

What the ‘Mera Ration’ feature offers

The ‘Mera Ration’ feature functions as a digital service integrated within the UMANG platform. Through this service, users can view details linked to their ration card by entering either their ration card number or Aadhaar number.

Once the information is entered, the app displays details such as the amount of wheat, rice, or other grains allocated under government schemes. It also provides a record of previous ration distribution, including when the ration was collected and the quantity received.

This information helps beneficiaries track their ration usage and verify whether they are receiving their entitled quota under the Public Distribution System (PDS).

Finding nearby ration shops

Another function of the feature is the ability to locate nearby fair price shops. The app can help users identify government-authorised ration shops in their vicinity, making it easier to know where they can collect their allocated ration.

The location-based feature is expected to reduce confusion for beneficiaries who may not know the exact shop assigned to them.

Useful for migrant workers

The service is particularly relevant for migrant workers who move between states for employment. Under the One Nation One Ration Card scheme, beneficiaries can access their ration benefits from different states across India.

Using the ‘Mera Ration’ feature, migrants can identify nearby ration shops in a new location and continue receiving their allocated ration without disruption.

How to use the feature

To access the service, users first need to download the UMANG app on their smartphone and complete registration using a mobile number and OTP verification.

After logging in, users can search for “Mera Ration” within the app. By entering their ration card number or Aadhaar number, they can view their ration details and other related information on the screen.
