The Income Tax Department has issued a handy checklist for users facing trouble accessing the e-Filing portal. If you’ve been stuck with loading issues, error messages, or login failures, these steps could save you the hassle of repeated retries.
Clear temporary files
Old system clutter can cause conflicts. Press Win + R, type temp and %temp%, and delete everything that shows up.
Wipe browser cache & cookies
Go to your browser settings and clear browsing data, including cache and cookies. This often resolves loading errors.
Switch browsers
Some older or unsupported browsers can trip up. The department recommends the latest versions of Chrome or Edge for smooth access.
Use Incognito/Private Mode
Extensions and stored cookies can interfere. Opening the portal in Ctrl+Shift+N (Chrome/Edge) or Ctrl+Shift+P (Firefox) can bypass those issues.
Disable browser extensions
Privacy tools, ad-blockers, and VPN extensions sometimes block site functions. Temporarily switch them off and try again.
Update your browser
Outdated versions may not align with the portal’s security protocols. Always keep your browser updated.
Change networks
If nothing else works, switch to another Wi-Fi connection or a mobile hotspot. Network restrictions sometimes block access.
Most portal issues are rooted in local system or browser settings, not the site itself. Running through these quick checks should get you logged in and filing without delay.
