If your Android phone’s battery has been dying faster than usual, Instagram might be the reason. Google has officially confirmed that the Instagram app has been causing excessive battery drain on Android devices — something many users had already started noticing.
Reports of battery issues have been flooding platforms like Reddit, where frustrated users have shared how Instagram was using a surprising amount of battery in a short time.
Some users tried going back to older versions of Instagram to avoid the issue, but that didn’t help either, in fact, it sometimes made things worse by causing phones to overheat. Others switched to Instagram Lite and reported much better battery life, which further confirmed that the problem was with the main Instagram app.
In response to the growing complaints, Google published an advisory titled “Battery drain on Android devices,” confirming the issue and offering a fix. According to the post, Instagram has now started rolling out an update that should solve the problem.
“Starting today, Instagram is rolling out an updated app that should fix a battery drain issue on Android devices,” Google said. “Please make sure you have the latest version of the Instagram app (build 382.0.0.49.84) to resolve this issue.”
So if your phone has been struggling to stay alive through the day, it’s worth heading to the Play Store and updating Instagram right away. With the new version, you should see your battery life go back to normal.
