Activision is officially scaling down Call of Duty: Warzone Mobile, just over a year after its global launch. The free-to-play battle royale game, which debuted in March 2024, will no longer be available for new downloads from the App Store or Google Play after May 18, 2025.

According to an official announcement shared via the game’s X (formerly Twitter) handle, Warzone Mobile failed to meet expectations among mobile-first users, despite being integrated with the broader Call of Duty ecosystem on PC and console. Activision has confirmed that the game will be delisted from mobile app stores after Sunday, although existing players who have already installed the game can continue playing.

What will change

Players who retain access to the game after May 19 will still be able to use shared progression and content inventory across platforms. However, they won’t receive new seasonal content, and online social features will be limited. In-game purchases using real-world currency will also be discontinued. Any unspent COD Points or previously bought content will not be eligible for refunds.

Why Activision is shutting it down

The company cited unmet performance expectations in the mobile segment as the primary reason behind the decision. While Warzone Mobile was an ambitious attempt to replicate the success of the console and PC versions, the title struggled to retain a consistent player base and generate sufficient engagement among mobile gamers.

The wind-down is part of a broader move by Activision to reassess its mobile strategy, especially following Microsoft’s acquisition of the publisher in late 2023. Despite the unified progression and cross-platform features, Warzone Mobile didn’t achieve the same popularity or revenue milestones as other mobile battle royales.
