Chinese smartphone maker Tecno has introduced its latest Android-based custom operating system, HiOS 15, which aims to enhance the smartphone experience for users in India. The company claims this new operating system will provide a more personal, smooth, and intelligent smartphone experience. Further, in collaboration with Indian AI firm Sarvam AI, the brand has added vernacular speech to its Ella voice assistant, which supports real-time translations, transcriptions, and summaries for phone calls.
Tecno HiOS 15: Here’s what’s new
In a press release, Tecno confirmed that HiOS 15 brings various upgrades across the board, especially reflecting Indian usage patterns. The brand has introduced several new AI features. The first one is the AI Call Assistant, which can provide real-time translations, transcriptions, and summaries of calls. This feature also works with WhatsApp calls.
The second prominent AI tool is AI Auto Answer, which can automatically answer calls when the user is busy and provide call summaries. Tecno smartphone users will also get an AI Eraser, an image extender, and a sharpness tool that can fix blurry photos locally without internet access. We also get an AI Writing & Document Assistant that can perform several tasks, such as summarise or editing text files, and can also convert handwritten notes into editable Word or PDF files.
The HiOS’s native voice assistant, Ella, also now gets multilingual language support as it can now speak Hindi and will soon support Bengali, Tamil, Gujarati, and Marathi as well. The voice assistant is also being integrated with Gemini to enhance its conversational capabilities. Tecno has also added a built-in privacy intelligence feature like screenshot blurring for sensitive content, and some clean UI additions, including Picture-in-Picture (PiP) support and revamped home screen icons.
