Only one-on-one chats allowed You can message only people you’ve already connected with—through playlists, Jams, Blends, or Family/Duo plans. To start chatting, you’ll need to send a request, and once it’s approved, you can exchange songs, podcasts, and messages directly within Spotify.

Connections from outside still work Even if someone shares a Spotify link with you on Instagram, WhatsApp, Snapchat, or TikTok, you can click on it to approve their chat request. You can also send invite links to your contacts if you want to start a conversation inside the app.

Easy to find and fun to use Messages will show up when you tap your profile picture and check the “Messages” section on the left-hand bar. You can react to specific texts with emojis too, making it feel more like other social platforms while still keeping the focus on music.
Safety checks and moderation Spotify says chats are encrypted while stored and in transit, but they’re not end-to-end encrypted. The company may review conversations if rules are broken. Users can also report suspicious or harmful messages, and Spotify promises to act on those to keep the space safe.
