Spotify is running a limited-time Diwali promotion on its Premium Individual annual plan in India, bringing the price down to Rs 499 for 12 months via a one-time payment. The service claims users save Rs 1169 versus paying every month for a year at standard rates. In fact, the Spotify Premium Individual plan usually costs Rs 1390 annually. This means, Spotify's deal is a no brainer.

The heavily reduced price positions Spotify below competing annual plans in the country: Apple Music at Rs 999/year and YouTube Premium at Rs 1499/year.

The plan unlocks the standard Individual Premium feature set for a full year — ad-free listening, offline downloads, on-demand playback (no shuffle restriction), high-quality audio and support for shared real-time listening sessions with friends. Users also retain queue control and personalised features such as Sound Capsule listening insights.

One-time payment, not an auto-renew plan

Unlike typical annual subscriptions that renew automatically, Spotify is selling this Diwali plan as a one-time, non-recurring purchase. At the end of the 12-month validity, users must buy a new plan manually if they wish to continue Premium access. The offer page clarifies that users may cancel before activation and that the promotion applies only to Premium Individual, not to Duo, Family, or Student tiers.

Payment methods and terms

The offer supports UPI and popular digital payment layers including PhonePe, Paytm and Google Pay. Spotify notes the plan can be purchased and activated immediately, while the full set of terms remains listed on its website. Once redeemed, the year of validity is locked against the account.

The pricing brings Spotify to a lower year-end effective cost than Apple Music (Rs 999) and YouTube Premium (Rs 1499), presenting an aggressive seasonal entry point for users considering an ad-free switch during Diwali. The company has not specified how long the discounted window will remain live.
