Siri can now control Samsung SmartThings routines, bringing iPhone and Galaxy homes closer

Samsung is finally making life easier for households that mix Apple and Android devices. In its latest update, the company announced that users can now trigger SmartThings routines using Siri voice commands — a move it says will “bring peace to mixed OS households.”

The update essentially bridges the gap between Samsung’s SmartThings ecosystem and Apple’s Siri Shortcuts. This means iPhone users can now say commands like “Hey Siri, good morning” or “Hey Siri, I’m leaving home” to activate SmartThings automations. For example, a “Good Morning” routine could open blinds, turn on the coffee machine, and brighten the lights, while a “Leaving Home” setup might lock doors, switch off lights, and arm the security system.

Samsung’s update also makes SmartThings more accessible on the Apple Watch. Users can now view all their connected devices, control grouped devices, and even trigger entire routines directly from their wrist — turning the watch into a genuine smart home remote.

Additionally, Samsung has expanded iOS Live Activities integration, allowing iPhone users to monitor up to five of their most recently used devices at a glance. This includes appliances like air conditioners, robot vacuums, or air purifiers, offering real-time visibility and quick control without opening the SmartThings app.

The move builds on broader industry progress toward smart home interoperability, driven by standards like Matter and Thread. These protocols have made it easier for devices from different brands to communicate, and Samsung’s latest update further dissolves the old walls between Apple’s and Samsung’s ecosystems.

In practical terms, it means one thing: whether you use an iPhone, a Galaxy, or both, you can now control your connected home with whichever voice assistant you prefer.
