Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi after announcing a US$17.5 billion investment in India, aimed at strengthening AI infrastructure, skills, and sovereign capabilities for the country’s AI-first future.

Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella has thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi for what he described as an “inspiring conversation” on India’s AI opportunity. In a post shared on X, Nadella highlighted Microsoft’s decision to commit US$17.5 billion to India—its largest-ever investment in Asia—as the company looks to deepen its role in India’s rapidly expanding AI ecosystem.

According to Nadella's post on X, the investment will help support India’s ambitions in artificial intelligence by strengthening key areas such as digital infrastructure, skilling, and sovereign capabilities. The company plans to work closely with the government to build the foundation required for India’s AI-first future. The announcement underscores Microsoft’s growing focus on India as a strategic market for cloud and AI technologies. Nadella’s post also tagged the Prime Minister’s Office, emphasising ongoing collaboration between the tech giant and the Indian government. The investment comes at a time when global technology companies are accelerating their efforts to expand AI capabilities and talent pipelines across major growth markets, with India emerging as a central hub for development.
