Samsung’s latest operating system (OS), One UI 8, was recently introduced for Galaxy S25 series smartphones in select markets as a beta update. It is based on the latest Android 16 OS from Google, and promises new productivity features with various visual enhancements. Traditionally, we can expect this update to reach the company’s flagship devices before older or lower-end Galaxy devices get a taste of it.
However, if a recent Geekbench listing is anything to go by, the Galaxy A55, which was launched last year, could soon get the One UI 8 beta update, much before the company’s 2024 flagship Galaxy S24 or Z Fold 6/Flip 6 smartphones.
Samsung Galaxy A55 tipped to receive Android 16 update soonA phone with the model number SM-A556E, which is the codename of the Samsung Galaxy A55, was recently spotted on the Geekbench site. Interestingly, the listing revealed that the smartphone is running on Android 16, which hints that Samsung may be preparing for a public beta release of the One UI 8 update for the Galaxy A55.
Currently, the Galaxy A55 is running on the Android 15-based One UI 7 operating system, and is promised to receive three more years of Android OS upgrades. However, this leak confirms that Galaxy A55 could get an Android 16 update soon, which would suggest that Samsung is serious about providing the latest software update for mid-range devices early as well, increasing long-term stability for its smartphones in this segment.
The One UI 8 update is expected to bring subtle but useful upgrades like adaptive lock screen clocks, system-wide live captions, and more Galaxy AI features, which aim to enhance productivity. It also promises to offer smooth multitasking and a strong experience for daily tasks, gaming, and camera usage.
