Qualcomm unveils Snapdragon 6 Gen 4 with AI capabilities and gaming enhancements

Qualcomm has introduced the Snapdragon 6 Gen 4 Mobile Platform, bringing new capabilities to mid-range smartphones. The latest chipset incorporates generative AI features, improved gaming performance, and advanced camera technology, marking a significant upgrade for devices in this category.

The Snapdragon 6 Gen 4 delivers an 11% increase in CPU performance thanks to upgraded Kryo cores, while the Adreno GPU sees a 29% boost in graphics processing. Despite these performance gains, Qualcomm has optimized power efficiency, reducing energy consumption by 12% for longer battery life. The chipset is built on a 4nm process, making it more efficient and capable than its predecessor.

Gaming performance sees a notable improvement with Snapdragon Game Super Resolution, which enables 4K upscaling for a sharper visual experience. The Adreno Frame Motion Engine enhances gameplay by doubling frame rates while maintaining power efficiency. Additionally, the Adreno HDR Fast Blend feature processes complex scenes at twice the speed of previous models.

AI capabilities are a key highlight of the Snapdragon 6 Gen 4, with on-device AI processing that supports large language models (LLMs) such as Meta’s Llama 3.2 and Tech Mahindra’s Indus project. These AI enhancements enable features like multilingual text summarization, text generation, and real-time Q&A without requiring cloud-based processing.

For photography and videography, the Snapdragon 6 Gen 4 is equipped with a Qualcomm Spectra 12-bit triple ISP. It supports up to 200MP single shots and includes Snapdragon Low-Light Vision technology, enhancing image quality in dim environments. The triple ISP allows users to capture photos and record videos simultaneously, catering to content creators who need more flexibility.

By integrating premium features previously found in flagship chipsets, Qualcomm aims to elevate the mid-range smartphone experience. The Snapdragon 6 Gen 4 is expected to power upcoming devices from various manufacturers, offering users enhanced AI, gaming, and camera performance in an energy-efficient package.
