Perplexity AI has partnered with Snapchat to become the default AI on the photo and video sharing platform. CEO Aravind Srinivas has announced the news via an X post mentioning that the Snapchat app will get Perplexity access starting January 2026.
Srinivas also confirmed that he’s “excited to work together with the Evan and Snap team on several other projects in the future.
What AI features Perplexity will offer on Snapchat
As of now, there’s not much information available on what sort of features Snapchat will offer with Perplexity integration. However, it appears that Snapchat is trying to take on Instagram and the entire Meta AI features that it offers and more or less, Perplexity will become the AI service provider for the platform and facilitate all the AI features.
In his post, Srinivas wrote, “Perplexity will be the default AI for all Snapchat users in the Snapchat app from January 2026. Excited to work together with Evan and the Snap team on many more projects.” The collaboration means that Snapchat’s current AI features — including My AI, powered by OpenAI’s technology — could see a major shift toward Perplexity’s conversational and search-driven model.
Partnership details
While details of the integration have not been officially disclosed, Perplexity’s role as Snapchat’s default AI assistant indicates a broader focus on real-time, conversational search experiences within the app. The partnership could allow users to access Perplexity’s answer engine directly inside Snapchat for tasks such as summarizing information, answering queries, or enhancing in-chat experiences.
Snapchat’s AI chatbot, introduced in 2023, has primarily been used to help users with conversations, suggestions, and content creation. The upcoming change could align with Snap’s effort to provide smarter, more contextually aware tools across messaging and camera interfaces.
What this means for users
Starting January 2026, Snapchat users may notice Perplexity AI embedded across features such as chat assistance, Lens suggestions, and creative tools. While Snap has yet to announce how existing AI functionalities will transition, the change is expected to improve how users search for information or generate content within the app.
As the integration nears, both Perplexity and Snap are likely to share more details on the rollout and new capabilities in the coming months.
