Perplexity, the AI-powered search engine, has seen rapid growth over the past year, now processing over 300 million user queries every week. This marks a threefold increase from the 100 million weekly queries reported approximately nine months ago. CEO Aravind Srinivas shared the milestone on X via a post highlighting the platform’s accelerating adoption and expanding user base in just 9 months.
Update: Perplexity now serves over 300M user queries every week. 3x growth in approx 9 months from the time we hit 100m weekly queries. https://t.co/ZQd602dOBO— Aravind Srinivas (@AravSrinivas) August 19, 2025
Now, this jump has also to do things with Perplexity Pro subscription with Airtel that's free for all users now including prepaid, postpaid and broadband customers at no additional charges.
Despite its success, Perplexity faces challenges around copyright and content usage. Several publishers, including News Corp’s Dow Jones and the New York Post, have filed lawsuits against the company, citing concerns over content replication. The New York Times also recently issued a cease-and-desist notice, raising questions about how AI-powered search engines source and display information.
Srinivas remains optimistic about Perplexity’s trajectory. He envisions the platform eventually processing more than 100 million queries every day, further emphasising the potential scale of AI-powered search. The company is reportedly in talks to raise around $500 million at an $8 billion valuation, which could fuel further expansion and product development.
