Perplexity AI, the AI-powered search and chat platform, has become the most downloaded app across all categories on both Android and iOS app stores in India. The app currently occupies the number one position on the Google Play Store and Apple App Store’s free app charts, overtaking popular apps like ChatGPT, Google Gemini, and Arattai Messenger.

Confirming the milestone, Perplexity CEO Aravind Srinivas posted on X (formerly Twitter):

“Perplexity is the number one app in Play Store in India across all categories.”

The post, accompanied by screenshots of the rankings from both app stores, quickly gained attention in the tech community. The surge indicates a broader adoption of AI-based tools in India, especially those focused on information retrieval and conversational search.

As shown in the latest app store charts, Perplexity – Ask Anything holds the top spot on the Google Play Store under the “Top Free” section, ahead of Arattai Messenger and ChatGPT. Similarly, on Apple’s App Store, Perplexity – AI Search & Chat ranks first among free apps, surpassing Google Gemini, ChatGPT, and Rapido.

This simultaneous rise on both major platforms highlights Perplexity AI’s growing popularity among Indian users seeking conversational AI and quick-answer tools. It also reflects increasing competition in the AI search and chat space, where apps from OpenAI and Google have been leading in recent months.
