Nothing found itself in trouble after a misleading camera comparison between its upcoming Phone 3a and Apple’s iPhone 16 Pro Max. In a promotional video, Nothing claimed that its phone had better video stabilization than Apple’s latest flagship. But sharp-eyed viewers quickly noticed something wasn’t right.
The problem? The footage used for the iPhone comparison came from its ultrawide lens, not the main camera. This made the iPhone’s stabilization look much worse than it actually is, giving the Nothing Phone 3a an unfair advantage. Fans called out the mistake in the comments, and Nothing had to respond.
The company pinned a message under the video, admitting the error. “Hey everyone, we shot across all lenses throughout the day… and in editing, a clip shot using the iPhone 16 Pro Max’s ultrawide lens was mistakenly used in the video stabilization comparison instead of one shot using its standard lens,” they wrote. They apologized and promised to be more careful in the future.
Nothing is known for its bold marketing and for taking on bigger brands like Apple. They focus on offering high-end features at a lower price, but this time, their strategy backfired. While some fans appreciated their honesty, others felt it hurt their credibility.
The Nothing Phone 3a is set to launch on March 4, 2025.The company is expected to launch both Phone 3a as well as Phone 3a Pro.
