Nintendo has postponed pre-orders for the highly anticipated Switch 2 console in the US, citing the need to assess the impact of new tariffs announced by US President Donald Trump. Originally scheduled for April 9, 2025, the pre-order date has been delayed indefinitely, though the console's launch date of June 5, 2025, remains unchanged.
"Pre-orders for Nintendo Switch 2 in the US will not start April 9 in order to assess the potential impact of tariffs and evolving market conditions," Nintendo said in a statement.
The tariffs, which impose significant duties on imports from countries like Vietnam, Japan and China, have raised concerns about potential price hikes for the Switch 2, which is already priced at $449.994. Nintendo has not yet confirmed whether these tariffs will lead to increased costs for consumers. The company also made it clear that the pre-order date has been affected only in the US. In UK, the pre-orders will go live as scheduled.
The Switch 2 boasts several upgrades, including a 7.9-inch 1080p display, 256GB of storage, and a new C-button for in-game chats.
