Apple introduced its first mixed reality headset, the Vision Pro, globally last year. Since then, potential consumers have not fully adopted this machine, especially since the device is primarily focused on developers and not general consumers, and because of its high asking price. However, the company is now gearing up to launch its second-generation Vision Pro headset later this year, according to a latest report by seasoned journalist Mark Gurman.
Apple Vision Pro successor tipped to launch in 2025:
In a report, Bloomberg's Mark Gurman confirmed that Apple is working on the next iteration of the Vision Pro headset, aiming to deliver improved performance with the help of its latest M4 chipset. With the chipset’s powerful CPU and GPU, along with a Neural Engine featuring more cores, users can expect faster performance, smoother multitasking, and improved handling of AI-driven features within visionOS, with the next Vision Pro.
In addition to the processor update, Apple is reportedly testing a version of Vision Pro with an enhanced Neural Engine. If true, that would make it the first M4 chip with more than 16 neural cores, as only the M2 Ultra and M3 Ultra SoCs offer more than that. Apple is also experimenting with redesigned straps for the Vision Pro headset to improve comfort, as the current model has drawn criticism from users, who suggest that the default bands fail to provide an optimal fit and long-term comfort.
As for its release, Gurman adds that Apple is planning to ship this new version of the Vision Pro as early as this year. Moreover, the Cupertino-based tech giant also has plans to develop its smart glasses, similar to Meta’s Ray-Ban smart glasses, in the coming years. The company is also reported to be developing another successor to the Vision Pro, with major hardware changes and a lighter weight, which is likely to be launched in 2027.
