TikTok may have finally found a buyer in the US. As per US president Donald Trump, Microsoft is currently in talks with Bytedance to acquire the US arm of the video-sharing platform. Notably, Microsoft was one of the potential buyers back in 2020 when Trump had ordered Bytedance to sell TikTok to a US business or face a ban.
Recently. Trump was asked by reporters if Microsoft is in talks to acquire TikTok. To which he said, “I would say yes.A lot of interest in TikTok. There’s great interest in TikTok.” A Reuters report said that neither Microsoft nor Bytedance have reacted to the reports.
TikTok, which has over 170 million users in US, was briefly banned in the country. A law was made to force ByteDance to sell TikTok or have it banned by January 19. But after becoming president on January 20, Trump delayed this rule for 75 days.
He is talking to different people about buying TikTok and plans to decide in a month. He also said Elon Musk could buy it, but Musk hasn’t responded. The situation is still unclear, and the government is debating whether TikTok is safe for the U.S.
