Tech giant Microsoft has laid off more than 9,000 employees and it’s the gaming division which has been affected the most. Following Microsoft’s announcement, a lot of big name studios have shelved or cancelled upcoming titles. Here are five games that won’t see the light of the day.

Perfect Dark (Reboot)
Once positioned as a major revival of the classic sci-fi franchise, Perfect Dark was an action-adventure shooter featuring a reimagined Joanna Dark. It generated buzz with its 2024 gameplay reveal, but has now been scrapped entirely following layoffs at developer The Initiative and Crystal Dynamics.

Everwild
Rare’s ambitious title Everwild has been shelved after years of uncertainty. First revealed in 2019, the action-adventure game was noted for its painterly visuals and mysterious fantasy world. Rare, best known for Sea of Thieves and Banjo-Kazooie, has also been affected by the recent wave of studio layoffs.

Blackbird (Codename)
ZeniMax Online Studios, the developer behind The Elder Scrolls Online, has cancelled its unannounced MMORPG, codenamed Blackbird. The project had reportedly been in development since 2018.

Warcraft Rumble – New content cancelled
Blizzard’s mobile action strategy game Warcraft Rumble will no longer receive new content updates. While not entirely abandoned, Blizzard confirmed development has ceased beyond systemic in-game events and bug fixes.
