Phoebe Gates, daughter of Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates, is proving that she’s not just another famous last name. She’s diving into the world of startups with her new e-commerce app, Phia, and she’s also figured out a pretty smart way to use AI,specifically ChatGPT, to help her business grow.
In a recent chat on The Burnouts podcast, Phoebe and her co-founder, Sophia Kianni, opened up about the clever ChatGPT trick they swear by. Turns out, they use the chatbot to help them crack the code of viral videos.
Here’s how it works. First, they look at videos blowing up on TikTok and Instagram—especially content from brands that’s doing really well. Then, they break those videos down into simple parts: what the hook was, how the middle kept people watching, and how it wrapped up. They track all this in a basic Excel sheet.
Then comes the real hack. They feed those video transcripts into ChatGPT and ask it to figure out the common patterns. What makes people stop scrolling? What keeps them watching? Once ChatGPT breaks that down, they give it a description of their own product, and it spits out video scripts that follow the same successful formula.
“You shouldn’t be starting anything from scratch. The internet exists for a reason,” Kianni said. Phoebe agreed, adding, “I use AI almost every single day, and it supercharges me.”
As for what Bill Gates thinks of all this? Like any dad, he was supportive—but also slightly worried she’d hit him up for cash. “I thought, ‘Oh boy, she’s going to come and ask,’” he joked in an interview. “I would’ve kept her on a short leash doing business reviews, and that would’ve been tricky.”
Looks like Phoebe’s figuring it out just fine on her own.
