Meta has no place for employees who leak company’s confidential information. The company has fired around 20 employees for sharing internal information and says more could be let go.
“We tell employees when they join the company, and we offer periodic reminders, that it is against our policies to leak internal information, no matter the intent,” Meta spokesperson Dave Arnold told The Verge. “We recently conducted an investigation that resulted in roughly 20 employees being terminated for sharing confidential information outside the company, and we expect there will be more. We take this seriously, and will continue to take action when we identify leaks.”
Lately, Meta has been dealing with a lot of leaks. Reports have revealed details from private meetings, including one led by CEO Mark Zuckerberg. After that meeting, employees were warned not to share information—but that warning got leaked too! Meta’s CTO Andrew Bosworth later said they were “making progress on catching people.”
Meta hasn’t said what exactly was leaked or who was involved, but it’s clear they are serious about stopping it.
This comes at a tough time for Meta employees. The company has made big changes, shutting down diversity programs, changing content policies, and laying off staff, calling them “low performers.” Many workers are already unhappy, and this latest move could add to their frustration.
Bosworth, however, thinks leaks don’t help. “People think, ‘If this gets out, it will force the company to change things.’ But actually, the opposite is more likely,” he said in a recent meeting. Now the question is, will this stop the leaks, or will frustrated employees keep speaking out?
