Mafia: The Old Country’s release date may have been leaked online. The release date for the upcoming game in the Mafia series appeared on a Steam blog post as August 8, 2025, but was later removed, as per a report by Insider Gaming.
According to the report, Mafia: The Old Country’s release date was revealed towards the end of a non-English PAX East news article on Steam that mentions that the devs will host a live stream at PAX on May 8. When translated into English, the now-edited post just includes the livestream announcement bit:
“Mafia: The Old Country Developer Panel – Live from PAX: May 8
Mafia fans understand the gravity of breaking omertà, so don’t miss your chance to uncover the origins of organized crime with Mafia: The Old Country at PAX East. On May 8 at 7pm BST / 2pm ET / 11am PT, watch the developers at Hangar 13 reveal new details about the game and offer a rare behind-the-scenes look at the past, present, and future of this legendary franchise, live from their panel discussion via the PAX East main stream and the Mafia YouTube channel”.
Mafia: The Old Country is being developed by Hangar 13 and will be published by Take-Two subsidiary 2K Games. It is the first Mafia game after 2016’s Mafia III. The game takes players back to the origin of organised crime in early 1900s Sicily. The protagonist of the third-person action-adventure Mafia title is Enzo Favara, who, after a childhood of hardship in the sulfur mines, joins the Don Torrisi crime family to improve his prospects.
Mafia: The Old Country is set for release on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series and PC (Steam). Whether it launches on August 8 or not remains to be seen, but the official take on the release is just “Summer 2025” for now.
