The Karnataka government on June 17 launched an ‘AI workforce impact study’ ahead of the rollout of its new IT policy 2025, in attempt to assess the impact of AI on job landscape, and urged industry to share insights.

Karnataka’s IT and Biotech Minister Priyank Kharge said, “The Department of Electronics, IT and Biotechnology has launched a comprehensive study to assess the impact of Artificial Intelligence (AI) on the state's workforce. This initiative will inform the upcoming IT Policy 2025 and guide strategic interventions under our flagship skilling program, NIPUNA Karnataka.”

Minister Kharge added, “As Karnataka leads India’s tech journey - with Bengaluru ranked #5 globally in AI and Big Data ecosystems and home to over 1 lakh AI professionals - the state is prioritizing evidence-based policymaking to ensure inclusive, future-ready growth.”

“Our tech workforce now exceeds 1 million professionals, and Bengaluru is India’s undisputed AI capital. But as AI reshapes industries, we must ensure our people are not left behind,” Kharge said. “This study is vital to understanding the evolving job landscape, guiding smart skilling investments through NIPUNA Karnataka, and protecting our most valuable asset - our talent. I urge industry leaders to share their insights.”

AI workforce impact survey seeks inputs from industry leaders, HR heads, tech practitioners, and academia. It aims to identify how AI is being integrated into daily operations, which business functions are undergoing the most change, and which job roles are most at risk of automation. These insights will help the government identify skill gaps, map emerging roles, and design future-ready policies that support innovation while ensuring workforce resilience.

The survey is open until June 27, 2025 and can be accessed at shorturl.at/dNNQU.
