The Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) app and website faced a significant outage earlier this morning on December 9. The outage caused widespread disruption for passengers attempting to book train tickets. According to Downdetector, around 50% of users were unable to access the website, while 40% faced issues with the app, and 10% could not complete ticket bookings.

Further numbers from Downdetector revealed that the outage, which began around 10 am, resulted in login problems, difficulties in searching schedules and fares, and transaction errors. Passengers took to social media to express their frustration, with many reporting that they were unable to book tickets during the crucial Tatkal booking period. Till around 9.48 am, there were no reports of any outages. But soon after that — just before the Tatkal period — the number of outages went up.

IRCTC has not yet provided an official statement regarding the cause of the outage.
