Instagram faced a global outage on Tuesday, leaving several users unable to log in, refresh feeds, or load posts and stories. The disruption affected users across multiple regions, with complaints surfacing within minutes on outage-tracking platforms and social media.
Issues users are reportingAccording to reports on Downdetector, a spike in complaints was recorded shortly after the issue began. Users reported being logged out of their accounts unexpectedly, while others said the app failed to refresh feeds or display new posts. For some, Instagram loaded partially, showing older content but failing to update timelines or stories.
A significant number of users also reported problems accessing direct messages, with chats either not loading or failing to send. The issues were reported on both Android and iOS versions of the app, suggesting the problem was not limited to a single platform.
On X (formerly Twitter), users quickly took to the platform to check whether the problem was widespread. One user posted, “me checking to see if everyone’s Instagram is down or if it’s just mine,” alongside the hashtag #InstagramDown. Another wrote, “Anyone else’s Instagram down?”, echoing similar concerns seen across timelines.
Several posts highlighted specific glitches, including missing follower lists, frozen feeds, and repeated login failures. Some users also reported that the app opened but failed to load stories or reels.
Downdetector data highlights widespread impactDowndetector data showed a sharp increase in outage reports within a short period, indicating a widespread issue rather than isolated regional disruptions. Reports were submitted from users in India, the United States, parts of Europe, and other regions, pointing to a global service disruption.
According to user-submitted data on Downdetector, login-related problems formed the largest share of complaints. This was followed by issues with the Instagram app itself and server connection errors. Web access to Instagram was also affected for some users, with pages failing to load properly.
Downdetector’s official account on X posted that user reports indicated problems with Instagram starting early in the morning, further confirming the scale of the outage.
At the time of writing, Meta, the parent company of Instagram, has not issued an official statement acknowledging the outage or explaining the cause. The company has also not updated any public status dashboards to reflect the disruption.
