Instagram has been sneakily blocking the Democrats hashtag in the US. Soon after Donald Trump was chosen as the US President, many users reported that whenever they searched for “Democrat” or “Democrats”, they were met with a “results hidden” message.
Meta, however, has denied the accusations. The company has stated that the issue is technical and not intentional. They further clarified saying that not just “Democrats”, several other hashtags were impacted in this technical glitch including the hashtags related to the Republicans.
"We're aware of an error affecting hashtags across the political spectrum and we are working quickly to resolve it", Meta told the BBC in a statement.
Mark Zuckerberg's relationship with Trump on road to recovery?
Mark Zuckerberg and Donald Trump have had a bit of a rollercoaster relationship, but things seem to be getting better between them lately.
For starters, Meta announced some big changes to how it moderates content. Zuckerberg said Trump’s re-election marked a “cultural tipping point,” which influenced those changes. On top of that, Meta appointed Joel Kaplan, a well-known Republican, to replace Nick Clegg as their global affairs head.
Interestingly, Zuckerberg even visited Trump at his Mar-a-Lago resort in November, and Meta made a donation to a Trump fund. That’s a big shift considering Trump and his allies used to accuse Meta of censoring conservatives and even threatened to jail Zuckerberg.
But now, Trump’s on a different page with Zuckerberg. He praised Zuckerberg’s recent decision to get rid of fact-checkers, saying Meta has “come a long way.”
