The world’s first tri-fold smartphone, the Huawei Mate XT, could get a successor soon. While previous reports referred to the purported smartphone as the Huawei Mate XT 2, a new leak suggests that it could debut under the name Huawei Mate XTs. Another leak also sheds light on the expected launch window of the smartphone alongside its possible pricing.

Huawei Mate XTs: Expected launch date, price

According to Weibo tipster GuoJing, the upcoming Huawei Mate XTs tri-fold will launch on September 12. This means that it could arrive during the same week as the Apple iPhone 17 series. However, Apple’s first foldable iPhone will purportedly not launch this year, and the company is waiting until next year before it enters the foldable segment.

Additionally, a report by the Chinese outlet CNMO suggests that the Huawei Mate XTs will be priced at around CNY 20,000 (around Rs 2,43,400). To recall, last year's Mate XT Ultimate Design launched at a starting price of CNY 19,999. This means that the latest tri-fold smartphone from Huawei will be priced similarly to its predecessor, and more than the price of the iPhone Fold, which is likely to be priced around Rs 2,00,000.

The Huawei Mate XTs is further expected to use an upgraded Tiangong dual-hinge system for increased durability. It will likely ship with the HarmonyOS 5.1 operating system and will likely be powered by the Kirin 9020 SoC. In terms of optics, the device could come with a triple rear camera unit led by a 50MP primary sensor with support for variable aperture. The Mate XTs is expected to boast the same 7.9-inch main display as the Mate XT Ultimate, and house a 5,600mAh battery.
