Huawei introduces ultra-slim Mate 70 Air to take on iPhone Air: Price, specifications

Huawei has joined the trend of slim and lightweight premium smartphones by launching the Mate 70 Air in China. It directly competes against other premium ultra-slim smartphones introduced this year, such as the iPhone Air and the Samsung Galaxy S25 Edge. The Huawei Mate 70 Air has a thickness of 6.6mm and offers a celestial-inspired design with gold thread and brocade silk accents, and has a luminous star ring effect at the rear.

The Huawei Mate 70 Air has a starting price of CNY 4,199 (around Rs 52,000) for the base variant with 12GB of RAM and 256GB of storage. The 12GB + 512GB and 16GB + 256GB variants are priced at CNY 4,699 (around Rs 58,400), while the top-end 16GB + 512GB model costs CNY 5,199 (around Rs 64,500). The Mate 70 Air is available in three shades: Gold Thread & Silver Brocade, Feather Robe White, and Radiant Gold Black.

The Huawei Mate 70 Air runs on the company's own HarmonyOS 5.1 operating system. It sports a 7-inch Full-HD+ AMOLED display, which can reach a peak brightness of 4000nits. The Mate 70 Air is powered by Huawei's Kirin 9000 series of processors, where the 12GB variant uses the Kirin 9020B SoC, while the 16GB variant uses the Kirin 9020A chip.

In terms of optics, the quad-rear camera system includes a 50MP main sensor with OIS, a 12MP RYYB telephoto lens with OIS, an 8MP ultra-wide macro lens, and a 1.5MP multispectral Red Maple TrueColor sensor. At the front, the phone has a 10.7MP selfie camera. Despite its slim form factor, the Mate 70 Air houses a big 6,500 mAh silicon-carbon battery with 66W wired fast charging support. Connectivity options include Wi-Fi 7+, Bluetooth 5.2, NFC, USB Type-C port, and satellite messaging via BeiDou. The phone is 6.6mm thin and weighs 206g.
